Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity

Great Ormond Street Hospital

Great Ormond Street Hospital is the UK’s leading children’s research hospital and one of the top four centres of excellence for paediatrics in the world. We have experts across a wide range of paediatric specialities and treat children who suffer with complex and life-threatening illnesses.

Patients are referred to the hospital from around the UK and abroad, often as their last hope for a successful outcome. Each year, the hospital responds to over 200,000 admissions and outpatient appointments for children ranging in age from premature babies to late teens.

Money raised by Tri for life will be distributed to the theatre for theatres appeal.

About the Theatres for Theatres appeal:

The neurosciences unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital is the largest paediatric neuroscience centre in the UK. The team provides specialist care for children with disabilities, brain tumours, epilepsy, craniofacial disorders, hydrocephalus (water on the brain) as well as children with brain or spinal injuries. Each year the neurosciences team treats over 8,000 children from across the world, carrying out 750 operations. The Theatres for Theatres Appeal is aiming to raise £4 million over three years towards the construction of two new state-of-the-art operating theatres at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The new operating theatres will replace the current cramped and outdated facilities and allow the team to treat more children with complex and often life-threatening neurological and craniofacial conditions.

Named after our bright yellow shirts, the Leukaemia Research Banana Army is about having fun whilst also doing something extremely positive to help people with blood cancers. It doesn’t matter if you are new to the events or an experienced athlete – everyone is welcome!

Partners

2XU

2XU

The Official Triathlon Partner for Tri for Life have once again come onboard to help provide wetsuits. 2XU will be renting out wetsuits on the day for a charge of £35 (of which a generous portion is given to charity). All you need to do is to email Mike: mikemartin@triathlonconsultants.com with your height and weight so that he can reserve a suit for you. He will meet you the morning of the event where he will help you to get in your wetsuit and provide tips of how to perform to your best. Wetsuits are on a first come first served basis so please contact him as soon as your place is confirmed. The lake is colder than a swimming pool so a wetsuit is recommended. Many people last year also took advantage of practising their open water swimming at liquid leisure in Datchet (www.openwaterswim.co.uk). Swimming open water and in a wetsuit is very different to swimming in a pool. Other recommended equipment includes a swim cap, number belt, tri suit all of which can be found on their website.
