It is vitally important that young people with cancer are cared for by specialist staff who are experienced in supporting their specific needs. The key to the care of young people with cancer is to treat them as young people first, cancer patients second, allowing them to mature through their illness, develop coping strategies and maintain a sense of self. Encouraging young people with cancer to socialise with other cancer patients of their age is also vitally important so they can support each other and help combat the anxiety that cancer creates.

With the support from our participants taking part at tri for life in 2014, Teenage Cancer Trust raised over £15,000 towards funding vital nursing care in specialist Teenage Cancer Trust units.
